Police State, and The Assault Against And Innocent Child

We’re mad as hell, and don’t know where to place it anymore. At 12:40 am EST on Sunday, a baby in Detroit, 7 year old Aiyana Jones was murdered during the reckless execution of a search warrant by Detroit police. The police were not in danger according to reports, there was no sense in coming into that home like it was a terrorist camp; yet a child was getting shot in the head. Apparently, there was only resistance from the grandmother, and rightfully so, as her home was under attack. There is a problem when the rights of the government supercede the right for a family to live in peace. There is a problem when we as a community continue to tolerate these terrorist acts being committed against our young men and women. As a Black man living in America, I wonder will the death of this child warrant any action from the government, or will this tragedy be swept under the rug with the offending parties unpunished, which seems to be the norm. Never mind that a suspect was allegedly arrested after this one sided firefight, an innocent child was killed; and the Detroit police want to chalk it up as an honest mistake. The only mistake is allowing a police force that has been troubled for the last decade to operate with apparent impunity while officers have been charged with everything from sexual scandal, to random brutality, along with this and other cases of outright murder. Not “accidental” death, but murder. Maybe calling it what it is will cause people to understand that this isn’t a game, peace officers have the power to change or destroy lives, and its high time we demand them to serve and protect, instead of terrorizing and molesting citizens. I’m too angry right now to comment constructively, but hopefully this incident will cause oppressed people in every city and town nationwide to stand up for their rights to live without fear of the (alleged) protectors of society.
